Studio:
Discovery
Ages 8 – 12
Curiosity, goal setting, community building, and project-based exploration. This studio invites learners who love to learn to discover who they are and who they want to be. Discovering your passion and talents places you one step closer to a meaningful life.

Mastery
Learners work at their own pace to achieve mastery in the core skills of reading, grammar, and math rather than to earn grades or pass tests. This personalized approach to learning allows them to zoom past topics they quickly grasp and to be more deliberate in other topics.
Immersive Art Influence
Every child is an artist at heart. We weave creativity into every aspect of learning, whether is is through storytelling, visual arts, or hands-on projects. We nurture self-expression and problem-solving skills that extend beyond the page. Learners can also explore the Makers Space during the day and dedicated art activities. There are opportunities to paint, mold sculptures, create jewelry, knit, sew, stamp, and so much more.
Socratic Discussions
Children at Acton learn to be by engaging in Socratic discussions that encourage deep thinking and reflection about themselves and the world; taking ownership of their learning by setting their own learning goals and participating in the governance of their class; and practicing and celebrating character traits—such as hard work, integrity, persistence, kindness, and gratitude—that are important for a fulfilling and meaningful life.
Quests
Learners engage in real-world projects, or Quests, that challenge them to learn by doing. They don’t just read books about physics and complete physics problems on paper but instead build and test marble runs, boats, and bridges in real life. Rather than taking tests Acton learners prove their learning through public exhibitions.
Nature
Nature isn’t just a backdrop—it’s an essential part of the learning experience. Whether exploring the woods, engaging in outdoor projects, or using loose parts play to build and create, children develop confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills in the natural world. Time outside fosters resilience, curiosity, and a deep connection to the environment, making learning feel alive and adventurous. We will also are currently planting a garden and building raised beds.
Civilization + Communications
Civilization explores history, geography, and economics over a four-year period from pre-civilization to the modern day. Communication invites learners into an artful practice that develops strong language skills and fuels creativity. They engage in pitching shark tank-like presentations while also learning how to apologize to a friend. Developing character and immersing in history are both powerful attributes that invite each learner to not only learn about previous heroes but also being a hero.
Theatre
Imagining, acting, and developing scenes from our lives and from heroes in the past is a process that is wildly helpful for learners to gain understanding and perspective. Theatre skits are practiced during Quests and when learners are practicing their development of character traits and conflict resolution. Learning to be can be fun too!
